How To Label Your Storage Boxes So You Can Reuse Them

Nobody likes to pay for boxes, but if you are in a rush to make sure that you are able to pack all of your stuff on time, you are going to have to bite the bullet and purchase boxes. If you are feeling guilty about spending money on something that, if you had the time, you could have gotten for free, you can reduce this guilt by making it entirely possible to reuse the boxes for your next move or storage situation.

One of the biggest obstacles to box reuse are the labels that people put on in haste. Many people just take a permanent marker and scribble a brief summary of whatever is stored in the box. This can make reusing the box difficult because you will have to cover up the old label before you can store anything in the box and find it easily again. Here are some tips for labeling your boxes in a way that will allow you to remove the labels easily.

1. Purchase Special, Removable Labels

Your first option is to purchase labels that are specifically designed to be easy to remove. However, if you weren't thrilled about having to purchase boxes, chances are good that you're not going to want to purchase labels either. If you do decide to buy special labels, you can find them at any office supply store or shipping store.

2. Use Double Stick Tape

Another option is for you to label your boxes using an index card and double stick tape. It might be difficult to remove the double sided tape, but it will be easy for you to remove the index card itself. This will allow you to reuse the box by taking off the card, reapplying double stick tape, and putting on a new index card label.

3. Use Chipboard Letters

A third option is for you to go to a craft store or online and purchase chipboard letters. These letters are thicker than normal, self-adhesive letters which will allow you to get a better grip on them when you need to remove them. They are relatively easy to remove, especially if you put them on a plastic surface. Simply spell out the name of whatever is in your box with the letters and you'll be good to go.
